This page will continue to be updated as arrangements are confirmed. Please check back here for the latest information.
After many years of working alongside an extraordinary community of patients and families, Microprism Vision is entering its final chapter.
Michael Christian has recently chosen to step away from his optometry registration, bringing his long career as a practising optometrist to a close. As a result, Microprism Vision will also be winding down, and appointments have now ceased.
We know this news will carry real weight for many of you. Some have been coming to Michael for decades; others found their way to Microprism after long and difficult searches for answers and support. We are deeply conscious that the closure of the practice is not simply an administrative change.
There will also be many practical questions about what happens next. Our priority now is to make this transition as orderly and supportive as possible, and to provide clear information as arrangements are confirmed.

If you have an upcoming appointment
With Microprism Vision now winding down, all upcoming appointments will unfortunately no longer be able to proceed.
If you currently have an appointment booked, you do not need to contact us regarding your booking. We will contact you. We are working carefully through the appointment calendar and will be speaking with each affected patient personally.
We know that for many of you, an appointment with Michael is not simply another appointment in the diary. Some of these relationships have been built over many years, and we don’t want their conclusion to arrive as an automated cancellation notice.
It will take us a little time to reach everyone, so please bear with us while we work through these conversations. If you are booked with us, you are on our list and you have not been forgotten.
What happens from here?
There are still a number of practical questions to work through as Microprism Vision winds down. Some answers we already have; others will become clearer as arrangements are confirmed over the coming days and weeks.
We’ve gathered everything we currently know below, so you can find the information most relevant to you without having to navigate the whole transition at once.
This page will continue to be updated as new information becomes available, so please check back here for the latest guidance.
If your lenses have been completed and are currently waiting for you at Microprism Vision, please be assured that they are here and we will make sure they get to you.
We are currently confirming our final collection arrangements and will update this page with available dates and times as soon as these have been finalised.
If getting to the practice isn’t possible, please don’t worry. We will also be making arrangements for completed lenses to be posted where appropriate, with further information about postage added here shortly.
We understand that some lenses may require additional support once they are received. Our capacity during the closure period will be limited, but we will consider these needs individually and do our best to advise what assistance may be available.
See I need help with lenses I already have below for further information.
If you have lenses, a remake, repair or another order currently underway, you do not need to contact us for an update at this stage.
We are working through every outstanding order individually to understand where it is in the process and what arrangements can be made from here. As soon as we have confirmed information about your particular order, we will contact you directly.
We know that waiting without knowing what is happening can be unsettling, particularly while the practice itself is winding down. Please be assured that outstanding orders are one of our immediate priorities and have not been forgotten.
This applies to orders currently in production, outstanding remakes or repairs, and other incomplete orders.
We know that for some patients, receiving your lenses was never necessarily the end of the conversation. You may have questions about how you’re going with them, something may not feel quite right, or you may simply be unsure what to do now that the practice is winding down.
Please don’t feel that you can’t contact us. While our capacity during this period will be limited, we will consider each situation individually and do our best to help you understand what options may be available.
If you need assistance, please email us with a brief description of what is happening. This will help us understand what you need and whether it is something we can appropriately assist with, or whether you would be better supported by another practitioner.
We appreciate your patience while we prioritise the most time-sensitive matters.
If you have an urgent vision or eye-health concern
Microprism Vision is no longer able to provide ongoing optometric care, so please do not wait for a response from us if you are concerned about an urgent change in your vision or eye health.
If you experience a sudden or significant change in vision, eye pain, loss of vision or another urgent eye-health concern, please seek assessment from a registered optometrist, GP or the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital as appropriate.
In a medical emergency, call 000.
We know that some patients have existing financial arrangements with Microprism Vision, including prepayments, credits, payment plans or other individual circumstances.
We haven’t forgotten about these. Each situation will need to be considered individually as part of the closure process, and we are currently working to clarify what happens next.
If your account requires individual attention, we will contact you directly as soon as we are in a position to provide you with accurate information. You do not need to contact us in the meantime unless there is something urgent that you believe we need to know.
We understand that uncertainty around money can be particularly concerning, and we don’t want to give you an answer before we know that answer is correct. We greatly appreciate your patience while these arrangements are worked through.
We understand that some patients may need information from their Microprism Vision records, particularly if they are moving their care to another practitioner.
Arrangements for access to records following the closure of the practice are still being worked through, and we are not yet in a position to confirm what information will be available, how it will be accessed, or what the longer-term request process will look like.
For now, we ask that patients do not request copies of their complete records unless there is a specific and time-sensitive need. Our current systems require records to be retrieved and exported individually, and our very limited remaining team does not have the capacity to process large numbers of complete-file requests during the immediate closure period.
If you have an upcoming appointment with another healthcare practitioner and they require specific information from Microprism Vision — for example, a recent lens specification or particular clinical information — please email info@microprismvision.com.au and let us know exactly what is required.
Where we are able to assist with a time-sensitive request, we will do our best to do so.
We will update this page with further information about access to records as the closure arrangements become clearer.
We know this may be one of the hardest questions for many of our patients.
Some of you originally came to Microprism after a long search for answers, or after working with a number of practitioners before finding an approach that felt right for you. We understand that being asked to begin that search again may feel daunting.
There isn’t another practitioner or service we can point to as a direct continuation of Michael’s approach. However, that doesn’t mean you are without options for vision care.
Depending on your individual needs, you may wish to look for an optometrist with particular experience in areas such as binocular vision, behavioural or developmental optometry, prism, or neuro-optometric rehabilitation.
To make that search a little easier, we are putting together a state-by-state resource of practitioners and services around Australia, along with some guidance about the questions you may find helpful to ask when deciding who might be a good fit for you.
These practitioners work independently of Microprism Vision and within their own approaches to care. The resource won’t be a list of practitioners who “do what Michael does,” nor should inclusion be understood as a personal endorsement or guarantee that a particular practitioner will be right for you.
Instead, our aim is to give you somewhere useful to begin, and enough information to have a more informed conversation with a prospective practitioner about your history and what you are looking for.
We know that for many of you, this will be one of the biggest questions.
While Michael’s decision to step away from his optometry registration brings his long career as a practising optometrist — and this chapter of Microprism Vision — to an end, it does not necessarily mean the end of the broader body of work he has spent many years developing.
Right now, however, there are important questions that need to be carefully worked through before we can say what comes next.
We are taking advice and exploring whether there may be an appropriate and lawful way for aspects of Michael’s broader work to continue outside the practice of optometry. We don’t yet know what that might look like, and we don’t want to make promises before we have answers.
What we can say is that these possibilities are being considered carefully. If a pathway forward becomes clear, we will share further information with our community when the time is right.
For now, there is nothing you need to do or register for. Any future developments will be communicated through our usual channels and updated here where appropriate.
We’re still here, and if you have an existing matter that genuinely needs our attention, you are welcome to contact us.
During this transition, email is the most reliable way to reach us:
info@microprismvision.com.au
Our remaining team is very small, and we are currently prioritising upcoming appointments, outstanding orders and other time-sensitive matters. This means it may take us longer than usual to respond, but we are working through enquiries as carefully as we can.
If your matter isn’t urgent, we are enormously grateful for your patience. The inbox is being actively monitored, and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can.

If you’re finding this news difficult
We know that for some of you, this news will be much more than disappointing.
Microprism has been part of many people’s lives for a very long time. Some of you have known Michael for years or even decades, have travelled long distances to see him, or found your way here during periods when you were struggling to find the right support elsewhere. It is completely understandable that the sudden ending of that relationship may bring a real sense of loss.
While we hope the information on this page provides some reassurance about the practical things that happen next, we also know that information doesn’t necessarily make the emotional part easier.
Please take care of yourself through this transition. Talk to the people around you, and if you find that this news is significantly affecting your wellbeing or your ability to manage day-to-day, please don’t wait for answers from Microprism before reaching out for support. Your GP, mental-health practitioner or another trusted person in your life can be a good place to begin.
If things feel particularly difficult, support is also available:
Lifeline — 13 11 14
24-hour crisis support.
Beyond Blue — 1300 22 4636

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000.
Thank you

There is no simple way to close a chapter that has been this long, or that has involved this many people.
Over the years, thousands of you have walked through the doors of Microprism Vision. Some came once or twice. Others returned year after year, travelled across Australia or from overseas, brought partners, parents and children, sent friends our way, shared your stories with us, and allowed us to become a small part of your lives.
Thank you for that trust.
Thank you, too, for the extraordinary kindness so many of you have shown Michael and our team — particularly through what has been an incredibly difficult period. Your messages, phone calls, letters, patience and encouragement have meant more than we can adequately express here.
We know there are still many practical things to work through, and we will keep doing our best to navigate them with care. But before all of the appointments, lenses, records and unanswered questions, we wanted to simply acknowledge you — the people who made Microprism what it was.
Whatever comes next, it has been an enormous privilege to have shared this chapter with you.
Thank you for being part of Microprism Vision.
With love and gratitude,
Michael and the Microprism Vision Team
